AFTERCARE
LESS IS MORE
Our bodies are of divine design and capable of healing from the inside out. During the process of tattooing our bodies recognize ink as a foreign substance, prompting an inflammation and immune response such as redness, swelling, itching and in some cases, infection or allergic reactions. In all cases however, our bodies kick into high gear- stimulating the nervous system, releasing endorphins and other chemicals to assist in healing and regeneration.

Whether you decide to dry heal, apply ointments or wrap it in an adhesive bandage it is important to understand that the exact timeline can vary depending on the size and location of the tattoo and proper aftercare.
Dry healing
A simple and natural method that involves allowing the tattoo to heal without applying any ointments or adhesives. This may be a suitable option for individuals who have sensitive skin or are prone to allergic reactions. The increase of infection is likely if not kept clean so be sure to clean with antibacterial soap twice a day and wear clean clothing that comes in contact with the tattooed area. Avoid abrasive clothing, extended sun exposure or submerging in water at length. Can take up to 3 weeks for the scab to fall off. After 3-5 days of close monitoring, continue to clean twice a day, and apply small amount of an all natural, un-scented ointment. Rub in well.
Ointment Application
Thin layer to be applied with clean gloves by artist to thoroughly cleaned and dried tattoo and surrounding area. Be diligent in researching products that promote skin health. The increase of infection is likely if not kept clean so be sure to clean with antibacterial soap twice a day and wear clean clothing that comes in contact with the tattooed area. Adhesive bandage
To be applied with clean gloves by artist to thoroughly cleaned dried tattoo and surrounding area. Bandage should stay in place for 24 hours. Providing 1 to 2 inches margin from the edge of the tattoo, will help to lock in the excess body fluid and ink. Depending on the level of exudation a second application can be used for several days up to a week. Do not wear any piece longer than one week. Also if at any time the bandage is compromised by leaking fluid or rolled up edges exposing the tattoo, take off immediately. When removing, it is best to take off in the shower, pulling from the side or top edge back over itself. Do not pull the bandage upwards. Clean with antibacterial soap and lukewarm water twice a day. Apply small amount of an all natural, un-scented ointment. Rub in well.

Surface healing (2-4 weeks):
Initial healing (0-2 weeks):
Keep clean and apply ointment as directed.
May experience: oozing or crusting of excess body fluids and ink,
Redness, swelling and pain.
Stabilization (2-4 weeks):
Scabbing and crusting may apply (If dry healed), sloughing off of dry skin (like a healing sunburn) likely. Continue to keep clean and apply ointment as directed.
Full healing (3-6 months):
Tattoo is fully healed and vibrant. Skin may still be sensitive. Protect from sun damage and continue to moisturize as needed.
Please also consider the following:
Elevate your new tattoo when possible to reduce swelling.

Larger tattoos take longer to heal.

Tattoos in bending areas or experience more friction may heal slower.

Try not to itch your new tattoo, slap or pat. Be gentle.

If you notice any signs of infection (increased redness, swelling, pus) seek medical attention immediately.
